Faithbridge Hosts SafePlans Active Shooter Defense Training and Also Invites Leaders From Surrounding Faith-based Organizations to Attend

For Immediate Release

Palm Harbor, FL, January 9th, 2018 — SafePlans, a national leader in emergency preparedness and active shooter defense training, is partnering with Faithbridge Church, in Spring, TX, to provide free active shooter defense training for faith-based organizations in the Houston area. Hundreds of faith-based leaders have already registered to attend the training. This half day of active shooter training is scheduled for January 22nd, 2018.

SafePlans™ training program is designed to help faith-based organizations prepare for and respond to active shooter incidents. The educational presentation is called Intruderology™, which is the study of active killers. Intruderology addresses active shooter threats within the structure of Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) five specific missions of preparedness: prevention, protection, mitigation, response, and recovery.

Brad Spicer, president of SafePlans and national active shooter defense expert stated, “As a result of so many vicious attacks occurring at houses of worship, our office has been overwhelmed with requests for violent intruder awareness and response training. Understandably, leaders want to take actions to increase safety and reduce anxiety.” He continued, “The training builds upon the Run-Hide-Fight best practice and trains staff to recognize Pre-Attack INdicators or PAINs.”

Faithbridge began working with SafePlans in 2016 to enact better all-hazards emergency plans. After the tragic Sutherland Springs Church shooting, they wanted to share what they have learned with other congregations.

The Intruderology program has been put into action in schools, churches, organizations and businesses across the nation. In addition, SafePlans active shooter prevention strategies, which includes training for predicting violent behavior, has also been implemented throughout the U.S. When prevention efforts fail, Intruderology provides mitigation options that expand beyond the traditional response plans.

Using his experience as a bodyguard for several governors and as a SWAT team member, Spicer developed the training program with an emphasis on practical application. He said, “Due to their accessibility, houses of worship are typically soft targets. However, there are many things that can be done to enhance security, while maintaining a welcoming environment.”

Spicer explains, “Intruderology educates leaders of faith-based organizations how to train staff and volunteers to do more than implement the ‘Run. Hide. Fight.’™ system. Imagine an emergency like an active shooter in a church as an ‘X’ on a timeline. Everything after ‘X’ is response. Everything before ‘X’ represents the opportunity to prevent or at least mitigate the outcome. This training will help faith-based organizations get before ‘X'”.
